Yoga Meditation Benefits Improved Concentration

With regular practice you can achieve many yoga meditation benefits, but among them one stands out. It’s an improvement in the ability to concentrate. I’ve personally found that with all of the demands put onto my brain by others, my improved focus is really turning out to be something truly valuable. Now, as we get older, not only do our brains function differently (believe it or not they become more efficient), but more demands are usually placed upon them because we’re often put into positions of more responsibility. That said, a chaotic monkey brain just can’t handle these situations well. Having a regular practice of yoga meditation techniques will train your brain to more easily filter away the noise and clutter. Stephanie Gardiner writes about recent findings at the Sydney Morning Herald.

Yoga Meditation Benefits Improved Concentration

The next time you walk into a room and forget why you’re there, blame a monkey.

That kind of distraction is a classic case of “monkey mind”, according to Ramesh Manocha, a senior lecturer in psychiatry at the University of Sydney.

“The mind is understood, at least in the east, to have a monkey-like nature,” said Dr Manocha, who has studied the effects of meditation on the brain.

“It’s the thing that distracts you when you’re doing a task, it’s the thing that keeps you awake when your head’s resting on the pillow and you can’t understand why it won’t shut up so you can go to sleep.”

I was in yoga the other day. I was in full lotus position. My chakras were all aligned. My mind is cleared of all clatter and I’m looking out of my third eye and everything that I’m supposed to be doing. It’s amazing what comes up, when you sit in that silence. “Mama keeps whites bright like the sunlight, Mama’s got the magic of Clorox 2.”
